Shaughn McArthur

Shaughn joined Nature United in 2022. In his role, he is building relationships with government and other organisations to shape federal policy to better address the dual climate and biodiversity crises, while building more prosperous and resilient communities. He’s working with the government of Canada to ensure policies and investments uphold the potential of natural climate solutions and Indigenous-led conservation for both people and for the planet, while moving us down the path to conserving 30 percent of Canada’s lands and waters by 2030.

Prior to joining Nature United, Shaughn worked at CARE Canada, leading advocacy efforts that saw Canada double its international climate finance and raise the proportion of that finance going towards adaptation to 40%. He also led advocacy work around the Global Compact on Refugees, G7 Commitments in response to the Rohingya Crisis in Myanmar and Bangladesh, and Canada’s first Feminist Humanitarian Policy. Before that he worked as a policy advisor to the Chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, supporting efforts that led to the adoption of Canada’s Magnitsky Law, which is playing an instrumental role today in the conflict in Ukraine. He has a masters in public policy from the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin, and a bachelor of arts in journalism and communications from Concordia University in Montreal.
