Telling stories about collaboration, transformation, hope, and resurgence at this critical time in human and ecological history is what motivates and inspires me—and hopefully many others.

Biography

Jacqueline Nunes joined Nature United in 2015 to amplify our powerful mission and approach through collaborative storytelling. She led the effort to re-envision our organization as Nature United to reflect how we work to unite nature and people, nature and economy, and partners across all sectors. She also co-developed new guidelines for communicating with and about Indigenous partners based on respect, consent, authenticity, and reciprocity.

Before joining Nature United, Jacqueline led fundraising communications for WWF-Canada, where her work helped to generate the organization’s largest and most transformative donations. A highlight was joining a six-week research expedition to Grise Fjord on Ellesmere Island to tag narwhal, led by Fisheries and Oceans Canada and guided by Inuk hunters.

Prior to joining the environmental sector, Jacqueline was an award-winning editor and reporter, working at Chatelaine, Maclean’s and the National Post. Jacqueline holds a degree in journalism from Toronto Metropolitan University and a master’s degree from York University in protected-area networks and transboundary conservation.

Jacqueline lives near the Niagara Escarpment in Ontario, where she used to rock-climb every weekend but now spends early mornings exploring and hiking with her two young sons. She also volunteers on the board of directors for Native Earth Performing Arts and is a member of the Ontario Alliance of Climbers.
